Do you own a Vincent Van Gogh print?

I’m inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings and was doing some research on his works recently when I came across some interesting facts about him. I decided to look at various artists whose work interested me and feature some of them in my blogs.

Vincent Van Gogh is the first of several artists that have influenced me. I hope you enjoy reading about him and perhaps he may inspire you too.

Vincent Van Gogh was born on the 30th of March 1853 in the small Dutch village of Groot-Zundert, Netherlands near the Belgium border. He died on the 29th of July 1890 aged 37.

Having lived a relatively short life during the impressionist era, Van Gogh’s Mother encouraged his passion to paint and draw. Artists from this era experimented with vigorous brushstrokes, vibrant colours, and they paid attention to highlighting their artwork.

Van Gogh created more than 2100 artworks. His famous artworks include “Starry Night,” “Sunflowers” and “Self-Portrait.”

His early work was more conventional and used darker colours, he found that he could convey emotion with paint. Later he used brighter colours and created his famous “Self-Portrait.” There are 35 self-portraits of Van Gogh; they range from the conventional beginnings to a distinctive personal style where he experimented with different techniques and effects.

Van Gogh is regarded as one of the most popular post-impressionist painters. He massively influenced Expressionism, Fauvism and early abstraction as well as other aspects of 20th century art.
